Hastoe awarded place in Top 30 Sustainable Housing Providers list

The launch of the Hastoe New-Build Standard and our virtual orchard are praised by Housing Digital in helping to meet the net zero challenge by 2050.

Housing Digital recently invited housing associations to enter for its Top 30 Sustainable Housing Providers award, which celebrates organisations that are leading the way on the green agenda and the push for net-zero. It wanted to see how the best providers were committed to their own sustainability journey and show that the social housing sector is more than up to the job.

With the launch of our New-Build Standard in April – and our new Design Guidance in June – we knew we could more than demonstrate our own sustainability credentials. Our emphasis is not only in reducing the carbon footprint of our new, affordable homes in rural areas but also in promoting more sustainable lifestyles for our residents and ensuring the sustainability of the rural communities where we provide new, affordable homes.

Announcing the latest list, Housing Digital said it was clear that amongst the winners placed on the list there was “a genuine commitment to the green agenda… they have gone above and beyond to improve the sustainability of their housing stock and their own organisation, whether that’s through retrofitting, using renewable sources of energy or building homes to net-zero standards. The climate crisis is real – but if this list has revealed anything, it’s that the UK housing sector will do whatever it takes to keep it in check”.

Of Hastoe in particular the judges said we had shown “a clear commitment to – and examples of – sustainability considerations that have been incorporated into new build projects and Passivhaus standards in particular. The virtual Hastoe Orchard is a wonderful scheme!”
