Hastoe signs up to Homelessness Pledge

Hastoe has signed up to the National Housing Federation’s Commitment to Refer pledge.

The Commitment is a promise from housing associations to notify the local authority if they come into contact with someone they think might be at risk of homelessness.

It has now been signed by over 200 housing associations. It matches a Duty to Refer that became compulsory for public bodies from October 2018.

Hastoe Head of Housing mand Repairs, Sean Hughes, said:

“Hastoe already covers the Commitment through our housing procedures but we feel it’s right Hastoe signs up and shows our commitment to ending homelessness.”

“Homelessness is not just an urban problem, but is also prevalent in Rural England where homeless people can often be hidden from public view. If people are threatened with homelessness, it is vital they are referred to the local authority as soon as possible to so they can be supported into a safe, warm home.”
