Location: Mobile/home-based (with regular travel across East England)
The role will be based in the South and East of England, covering our properties across both regions. It is a mobile, home‑based position, with attendance at Hastoe’s Little Canfield office near Stansted Airport two to four times a month, alongside regular site and property visits in and around Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and London, with occasional travel further afield. The role involves a mix of home, site and office working, so you will need to be self‑reliant, practical, flexible and comfortable travelling as part of your week.

About the role
You will work closely with your team and external contractors to guarantee that Hastoe’s properties are maintained and repaired to a high standard, providing Hastoe with value for money and ensuring all legal and regulatory requirements are met.
You will help to deliver our planned and major works programmes and projects whilst also providing technical knowledge and expertise to your colleagues.
You will be responsible for a various aspects of our planned and major works projects typically include arranging works identified by fire risk assessments; cyclical redecorations; window and door replacements; re-roofing; heating upgrades; kitchen and bathroom replacements; overseeing major/complex repairs; defect surveys; and decent homes works.
Duties will include:
- Taking the lead as for each project.
- Preparing specifications, schedules of works and contract documents for tendering by contractors to deliver Hastoe’s planned, cyclical and major works programmes.
- Planning and undertaking stock condition inspections to provide high-quality data and assist with effective asset management planning.
- Monitoring performance and improvement of the supply chain to meet resident satisfaction.
- Partnering with colleagues in the responsive repairs team by picking up repair works and assisting with more challenging and difficult to diagnose responsive repair issues.
- Developing and maintaining effective relationships with contractors, suppliers, residents and other Hastoe departments.
About you
You will need to have good working knowledge of building construction, building regulations and health and safety legislation. You will have the ability to partner and collaborate with a variety of different stakeholders in a dynamic and complex environment.
In addition, you will:
- Have a construction or related qualification such as a HNC, HNDas well as either currently working towards or a desire to work towards a Professional Qualification such as RICS, RIBA, MCIOB or BSc in Building Surveying.
- Have experience of managing projects using JCT (Joint Contracts Tribunal) Minor Works and JCT Measured Term contracts and schedules of rates or proprietary pricing indices.
- Possess a understanding of building pathology and ability to diagnose complex building related defects.
- Have good report and specification writing skills.
- Have experience of delivering high standards of customer service to all customers, internal and external.
- Have an awareness of regulations concerning fire prevention, legionella and asbestos.
- Hold a valid driving licence and have use of your own vehicle.
