About us

Hastoe owns and manages more than 7,500 homes across the south of England from Devon to Norfolk. We are a social housing landlord and England’s leading rural housing specialist. We deliver small housing developments in partnership with local communities although, for historic reasons, we also own some housing in urban areas.

We are passionate about providing a first-class service for our customers. If you are enthusiastic, customer-focused, and passionate about making a difference to people’s lives, then we want to hear from you.

About the role

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Compliance Assistant to join our Corporate Services team. This role is key to ensuring that the Hastoe Group continues to meet its internal compliance, data protection and insurance responsibilities.

You will play an important part in helping the Senior Compliance Officer maintain strong compliance frameworks across the organisation, supporting effective governance and risk management and helping us uphold the highest standards in the way we work.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring and maintaining compliance registers, policies and procedures, ensuring managers meet their review deadlines.
  • Supporting internal compliance checks and audits; helping to track and report on findings.
  • Coordinating insurance claims and supporting the annual insurance renewal process.
  • Assisting with data protection activity, including Subject Access Requests and maintaining key registers.
  • Providing occasional cover for the Governance Officer, including support with statutory filings and board or committee administration.

About you

You will be an organised and motivated individual who takes pride in accuracy and clear communication. You will be confident managing multiple priorities and enjoy supporting others to achieve compliance and effective governance.

An all-rounded understanding of compliance, data protection and insurance processes would be ideal, though we are also open to someone looking to develop their expertise in these areas.

You will also need:

  • A-Level education (or equivalent), including English and Maths at Grace C or above.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook and Excel).
  • A basic working knowledge of data protection principles.
  • The ability to organise and prioritise your workload effectively.
  • A proactive and flexible approach with a willingness to learn and grow.

(A degree in Law, Business, or a related field, or previous experience in data protection would be advantageous but not essential.)
