Hastoe comment on social housing Green Paper

Communities Secretary Sajid Javid has today announced plans for a Green Paper on social housing at the National Housing Federation's annual conference.
Commenting on the Secretary of State’s speech to delegates, Hastoe Chief Executive Sue Chalkley said: “We are delighted that the Secretary of State spoke so passionately about his desire to restore public pride in social housing and we look forward to working with Government and other housing providers on the Green Paper.

“Rural communities have so few truly affordable homes and, when looking at the social housing needs of the countryside, it is so easy to fall into the mistake of putting quantity first.

“We certainly need a dramatic increase in new homes but this can only be achieved sustainably by properly and sincerely engaging with communities throughout the development process. This means allowing them to dictate critical decisions such as the number of homes, their design, and their energy efficiency in order to ensure that we build the correct mix of types and tenures that matches each community’s needs.”
