Thirty nine affordable new homes officially opened in Southend

Hastoe Housing Association hosted the official opening of 39 new homes in various locations throughout Southend at a ceremony in Philpott Avenue on 12 June 2013.

The mayor, Cllr Brian Kelly, officially opens a new affordable Hastoe development

The new homes have come about through a partnership between Southend Borough Council and Hastoe to redevelop fourteen former garage sites across the town.  The homes are particularly eco-friendly and all have been equipped with air source heat pumps.

The opening was a chance for partners in the project and the local community to celebrate the success of the scheme and commemorate.  The Mayor, Councillor Brian Kelly, cut the ribbon to mark the occasion.

The Mayor, Councillor Brian Kelly, said: “This project is a great example of the Council and a Registered Provider working in partnership to ensure affordable accommodation is both desirable and meets the needs of the residents of the borough of Southend. As the former Chair of Development Control and as Ward member for this site, I have taken an interest in this project from inception through to completion. I have also been able to see firsthand the difference this project has made both to the residents and the area itself.”

Hastoe’s Head of Development, Brian Carroll, added: “These homes are the result of a creative and constructive partnership with Council, the commitment of the Homes & Communities Agency and the input of our contractor partners.”

The developments include 26 properties for rent – a mixture of one, two, three and four bedroom houses and two bedroom bungalows – and 13 three bedroom houses for shared ownership.

The Homes & Communities Agency provided grant funding of £1.469,000 and Southend Borough Council provided £20,000.  The properties were designed by AK Design Partnership LLP and build by Marfleet Construction.
