Hastoe responds to the Industrial Strategy White Paper & construction sector deal

Business Secretary Greg Clark has today announced a transformative deal between government and the construction industry, following the publication of the Industrial Strategy White Paper earlier this week.
Commenting on the announcements, Hastoe Group Chief Executive Sue Chalkley said: “It’s good to see such a strong focus on construction in the Industrial Strategy. The new sector deal, as well as the £170m Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, will help boost our construction sector and increase home-building. Measures like the National Retraining Scheme will help ensure we have the construction skills required to hit the Government’s target of 300,000 new homes per year.

“The emphasis on clean growth as one of the White Paper’s four challenges is also especially welcome. The housing sector now accounts for over 30 percent of the UK’s carbon emissions, but many housing providers are already taking steps to provide the low-energy, sustainable homes we need to meet our climate objectives.

“The action to develop the supply chains in the environmental market will also help to ensure that the UK takes full advantage of the economic benefits of the growth in green technologies in the coming decades.”
