Upper Salters, Stisted officially opened by Hastoe and Braintree District Council

A new affordable housing development at Upper Salters, Stisted was officially opened by Hastoe Housing Association and Braintree District Council at an event on Wednesday 20th May.

Hastoe has been working in partnership with the Parish Council since 2010 to deliver the homes. A survey of the parish indicated that there was a significant level of housing need and overwhelming support for a housing scheme for the benefit of the community.

The small development of eight affordable homes, seven for rent and one for shared ownership, has been provided for local people. The development comprises four one-bed houses, one two-bed house and two three-bed houses for rent and one two-bed house for shared ownership.

The homes were designed by Barker Associates and built by Marfleet Construction. Air source heat pumps provide domestic hot water and space heating. The design and external appearance of the homes is in keeping with the other nearby houses.

Opening the scheme Cllr Lady Newton of Braintree District Council said:

“I am delighted to officially open these much needed affordable homes to address local need. These homes are here due to the strong partnership working between the District Council, Parish Council and Hastoe, in particular the determination of the Parish Council to overcome many obstacles on the journey to the completion of these houses.”

Kevin Hartnett, Business Development Director at Hastoe, added:

“It’s a great honour to have Lady Newton open our new homes in Stisted, a scheme that has taken over three years, having to find the right location and then build a well designed scheme that complements its surroundings within the village.”
