Event showcases affordable homes in Dartmoor village

People in need of an affordable home for rent in the Holne and West Buckfastleigh area are being invited to find out more about a new development of seven properties.

Four two-bedroom and three three-bedroom homes are being built in Holne by rural housing specialist, Hastoe Housing Association.

South Hams District Council helped to secure the housing development and agree allocation rules that give priority to local residents.

People interested in putting their names forward are encouraged to come along to an event on Tuesday, March 18 from 5pm until 7.30pm at Holne Village Hall.

Cllr Peter Smerdon, the district council’s Ward Member for Eastmoor, said: “I’m really pleased this development is being built as there is a need for affordable housing in the area.

“Priority is being given to residents with a strong local connection. The rules are quite complex so I would urge anyone interested to come along to the event. Staff from the council will be on hand to talk people through the process and it’s also a chance to find out more about what the homes will look like.”

Residents wishing to apply for the new homes need to be registered with Devon Home Choice – a choice based letting scheme that covers the whole of Devon.

Details of how to register and who can be considered for the new homes will be available at the event in March.

Jo Flint, Development Officer, at Hastoe, said: “We are very pleased to be delivering these much-needed homes for the Holne community, where local private rents and home ownership can be out of reach for some families.

“At Hastoe, we deliver homes that people can afford, we invest in people and communities and we are in it for the long-term.”

The new homes are due to be ready in July.
