Many councils are committed to helping residents reduce their energy bills and are supporting them to do this through collective fuel switching. This is when a large group of people get together and use their collective buying power to negotiate a better deal from energy suppliers. The more people who are involved in a switch, the bigger the buying power and the better the deal is likely to be. Click here to find out more about the Big Community Switch.
Alternatively you can go it alone. Click here for things to consider before switching. There are lots of websites that help compare fuel providers. Consumer Focus has accredited the following comparison websites as complying with their confidence code:

Energy mis-selling and scams
All gas and electricity suppliers have to meet certain standards when they market or sell energy supply contracts. Some of these are set out by the regulator, Ofgem, as a condition of the supplier’s licence. Others are set out in a code of practice which all the main energy sellers have signed up to.
If you feel you’ve been pressured into switching to a new energy supplier or have been switched without your consent, it is possible the salesperson or company has broken these rules.
