New Homes and extra allotments for Great Park residents and local people in Malborough

Hastoe Housing Association is supporting The National Housing Federation’s Rural Housing Week which aims to highlight the important role that affordable housing plays in keeping rural communities alive. Shops, post offices, schools and pubs are disappearing as local people are being priced out of rural England.

The picture (below) shows Malborough allotment holders, residents of Great Parkand Hastoe during the South West Rural Housing Week (3-9 October).

The allotment holders have benefited from improved facilities and extra plots as a result of a new affordable housing scheme in the village. The community spirit is already in action within this 17 home development at Great Park.

One of Hastoe’s residents and a current allotment holder Jaimie Walsh said: “it’s great that people in the village are able to rent an allotment because the fact is we have ended up with extra allotments and improved facilities such as a water supply, and more local people can afford to live here. It is a win, win”.
Joanne Flint, Development Officer at Hastoe said: “facilities such as allotments play a vital part in village life and we are really pleased to have been able to work with the Parish Council and the allotment holders to bring about these improvements.”
