Hastoe is proud of “Chichester House, Plymouth – The vertical street community” which is one of three entries in the running for the National Housing Federation’s South West What we are proud of Awards 2010.

The nineteen story block that stands on the skyline of Plymouth Hoe is home to 89 residents who together with Hastoe and their live-in Caretaker have made lasting changes to the quality of life for all.

Shirley Evans-Jones, Regional Manager for the West region said:

“We were delighted to hear we have been shortlisted as it recognises the hard work and commitment of everyone involved to improve the service we offer and the sense of community.”

Think Public meet residentsNews of the success comes as the residents at Chichester House recently won a competition run by Think Public and met with consultants for a day to put into action a ‘time bank’ project, where skills and interests could be shared between residents.

Valerie Armitage, Chair of the Residents’ Association said:

“I am very pleased to have been involved with my neighbours at Chichester House in making such great progress over recent years and to be nominated for an Award is great news.

The Think Public ‘competition day’ we have just had is just another step forward; it was well attended and helped kick start our action plan for 2010.”

The South West awards event, which takes place on 8 June at Tortworth Court in Wooton-under-Edge, is organised by the National Housing Federation. It is aimed at showcasing best practice from the social housing sector, and will see shortlisted entrants give presentations to the floor, with attendees set to cast votes for the regional winner. The project that comes out on top will go through to the national finals at the Federation’s National Conference in September, battling it out against the winners from other regions to be recognised as the “best in the country.”
