Passivhaus in Social Housing Event

Hastoe Head of Development, Ulrike Macceriello, took part in a joint event from the Royal Institute of British Architecture and CIBSE on building social housing to Passivhaus standards.

The event, titled "Passivhaus: The rewards and challenges in social housing" took place on 17 January 2019 at Great Eastern Hall, SS Great Britain in Bristol.

Speaking at the event were Emma Osmundsen (Exeter City Council), Thomas Gaertner (SE3Design), Ann-Marie Fallon (Architype) at Ulrike Maccariello from Hastoe.

Top of the agenda for discussion was whether Passivhaus could be a viable option for more of the social housing sector, given the higher costs of building to an ultra-high energty efficiency standard.

Passivhaus is a highly energy-efficienct method of building that reduces fuel bills to as little as £2-3 per week. Hastoe is a leading provider of Passivhaus, having built more than 100 Passivhaus homes in Rural England since 2011. Exeter City Council has committed to building all of its council homes to Passivhaus standard.
