Apply for our Community Grant

Our Community Grant fund offers up to £250 to help deliver community-based projects that will benefit Hastoe residents and their local communities.

We particularly welcome applications from projects that will support Hastoe’s commitment to sustainability and the environment, such as helping to protect wildlife, preserve green spaces or encouraging young people to learn more about the environment.

Please note, the Community Grant only supports activities in the wider community and does not provide funding for improvements to our estates or gardens – if you would like to make an improvement to our estates or gardens please get in touch.

Approved Community Grants

In 2022-23, we awarded 12 Community Grants across a wide range of projects. Here are just a few of them...

  • Hoh Charity

Hands of Hope 'Get Growing Buddies', Kent

Hands of Hope was awarded £250 to help fund a small community scheme ‘Get Growing Buddies’ as an extension of the charity's larger project ‘Get Growing’. The aim was to provide lone residents, families and schools with equipment, seeds and plug plants, as well as ongoing support to enable them to grow in-season fruit and vegetables. The project design was wide reaching as participants were then encouraged to share the resources with their neighbours to help tackle rural isolation and loneliness.

The organiser said, "We aim to provide a safe space for those dealing with mental health issues. Additionally, we hope to offer training and guidance enabling Growing Buddies to go out into the community and help others.”

The Walton Charity 'Santa's Stork' Appeal, Walton-on-Thames

The Walton Charity was awarded £250 to support their 'Santa’s Stork' Christmas Appeal. The appeal helped families who were facing financial hardship to provide presents to their loved ones. The volunteers gave the families a variety of choices before shopping for the presents and gift wrapping.

One family who benefited from the appeal said, “Thank you for such lovely gifts for my children for Christmas. I am struggling a lot and I collected them today. This will mean the world to my children and make their Christmas magical. Thank you so much for all the gifts and the time you've spent picking the items for us, they will go to good use!”

  • Scouts

1st Thaxted Carver Scouts’ Adventure Equipment, Wimbish, Essex

The 1st Thaxted-Carver Scouts were awarded £250 towards outdoor adventure equipment such as archery equipment, bicycles and climbing gear. The 133 members based in North Essex are spread over two locations in Thaxted and Carver Barracks and have three group meetings a week in each location. When the scouts received their equipment, 65% of the children’s parents were servicemen and women stationed at Carver Barracks in Wimbish.

The organisers said, "A key purpose of our group is to enable army children to join up with local children to participate in adventures and overcome any barriers that may exist between army and civilian life."

  • Garden Bed

Tendring School Recycling Hub and Community Garden, Clacton-on-Sea

Tendring School was awarded £250 towards setting up the school’s recycling hub community garden. The funding was used “to encourage the community to work together on the project by involving all the hub volunteers and local cubs group. It can be shared with one another, giving something back when times are hard.” They designated a haven for bees and wildlife by planting wild flowers, bulbs and plants to attract the butterflies, along with fox gloves and hollyhocks to create a screen to counteract car fumes from the neighbouring car park. Additionally, volunteers created a community herb garden where people can help themselves to a variety of herbs in raised beds made from recycled materials.

One of the organisers said, "As the recycling hub expands it intends to continue growing the plants and wildlife around the edge of the school field. This initiative will encourage the school and local community to work together.”

  • Powerstock Fete

    Powerstock Fête, Dorset

Powerstock's biannual fête and open gardens weekend was awarded £250 towards the cost of a community bus from the park and ride area to the fête venue and to hire St John’s Ambulance first aiders at the event. The programme on the day included a fancy dress competition, dog show, silent auction, tug of war, wellie throwing, bucking bronco, Punch and Judy, vintage vehicles, bar, BBQ, an archaeological roadshow and bric a brac to name just a few. All profits from the event were shared between Powerstock Church Fabric Fund, Powerstock C of E Primary School and other Powerstock community groups.

The grant is open to applications throughout the year and is awarded at Hastoe’s discretion, subject to availability of funds.
