Our Community Grant fund offers up to £250 to help deliver community-based projects that will benefit Hastoe residents and their local communities.
We particularly welcome applications from projects that will support Hastoe’s commitment to sustainability and the environment, such as helping to protect wildlife, preserve green spaces or encouraging young people to learn more about the environment.
Please note, the Community Grant only supports activities in the wider community and does not provide funding for improvements to our estates or gardens – if you would like to make an improvement to our estates or gardens please get in touch or report it as a repair.
Approved Community Grants
In 2019-20, we awarded 13 Community Grants across a wide range of projects. Here are just a few of them...
-
Thaxted Primary School Sensory Garden, Essex
Awarded £250 towards developing a sensory garden in an under-utilised part of the school grounds. The garden includes sensory planting, a chalk and sensory board, seating, a mud kitchen, platform scales and a pulley crane. It provides a refuge for over 40 children with special educational needs and disabilities.
What the organisers said: “We have the children on a rota so that all classes get the opportunity to spend time in the garden during breaks. Plus some children have lessons in there during the school day. It has been a big success!”
-
"Y don’t U” community event, Somerset
Awarded £250 towards hiring an educational drugs bus. The event was organised by 'Glastonbury and Street Beat' in partnership with the local police, schools, YMCA and social services to educate students, their parents and the wider community about child criminal/sexual exploitation, different types of drugs and the effect they can have on physical and mental wellbeing.
What the organisers said: “The feedback that we had was brilliant from both parents and children with lots of people saying there should be more opportunities within the community for this sort of thing to come to them”.
-
Great Wishford Village Hall, Wiltshire
Awarded £50 to buy goods to make up a number of themed hampers for their Christmas fundraiser for new changing facilities for the football and sports teams. The prizes included a fruit hamper, roast dinner with trimmings hamper, gammon dinner hamper and pamper hamper!
What the organisers said: “The event encourages residents and the local community to support our village hall. Events are done all through the year - quiz nights, bingo, football tournaments, fêtes etc. Community spirit is important.”
-
Roussillon Gardening Group, Chichester, West Sussex
Awarded £250 to buy community gardening tools. The Roussillon Gardening Group has taken responsibility for keeping the public spaces and borders near their homes neat and tidy. Neighbours are getting to know each other better and friendships are being forged through a common interest.
What the organisers said: “Thank you so much for this grant, the gardening group was over the moon. We bought a Water Bowser because there are lots of plants and they need to be watered regularly. Hauling around watering cans is tricky and heavy so the Water Bowser is the answer to our prayers.”
-
Culm Close, Bideford, Devon
Awarded £150 to buy an oak and a horse chestnut sapling along with 3 bat boxes to replace a tree that had been badly damaged.
What the organisers said: “Trees and bringing wildlife into the area can only be a good thing for Hastoe residents.”
The grant is open to applications throughout the year and is awarded at Hastoe’s discretion, subject to availability of funds.
