We believe that quality of life begins with a quality home and, to achieve this, homes need to be of the right type, in the right numbers and in the right place. As a social landlord and housing developer, it’s Hastoe’s mission not just to build homes, but to build sustainable homes for sustainable communities.
The Hastoe Way
Building homes the Hastoe way means maintaining high standards at every stage of development. We always develop homes above Building Regulations and always aim to reduce carbon emissions and increase sustainability. The Hastoe Way is underpinned by our New-Build Standard, which sets out the key elements that are now a minimum requirement for all our new homes.
Developing our own New-Build Standard
We began developing our New-Build Standard in early 2019. Our aim was introduce efficiencies and a level of standardisation that would improve value for money, whilst maintaining our high development standards. We also wanted to ensure we were on the right trajectory to meet future changes in government building and safety regulation, such as the Future Homes Standard of 2025 and the zero carbon emissions target set for 2050.
Building sustainable homes for sustainable communities
In 2011 we built the UK’s first affordable homes to Passivhaus standard; a highly energy-efficient building technique that can cut fuel bills by up to 90% per year. Since then, we have built more than 100 homes to Passivhaus standard across rural England, and aim to have at least one Passivhaus scheme in our development programme at all times.
We work closely with communities and councils to develop small sites to meet local housing need and partner with local architects, consultants and contractors to ensure our homes are sensitive to the surrounding vernacular. Often built in Areas of Outstanding Nature Beauty, our homes enable local people to remain within their communities and help keep rural services sustainable.
This vision is driven by our Board and employees. This is the essence of Hastoe and this is the Hastoe Way.
