Wimbish passivhaus performs - Hastoe releases results of two year study

15/10/2014
Hastoe has released the findings of a two year study on its first passivhaus housing development, Wimbish in Essex. The study found that the development performs as designed and delivers very low heating bills for residents.

Wimbish Passivhaus CompleteThe study has verified that Wimbish Passivhaus meets Hastoe's objective of delivering low heating bills to reduce the impact of fuel poverty on our residents and has the potential to reduce rent arrears. The exemplar 14 home development for local people was the first rural affordable accredited passivhaus development to be built in the UK.

This report supports that occupants have homes that are economic to run and healthy and comfortable to live in. The homes are using up to 90% less energy for space heating and some residents have experienced heating bills of just £120 a year.

The Building Performance Evaluation Study was supported by the Technology Strategy Board and the University of East Anglia.
