Building works advance on 20 new affordable homes in Colyton, Devon
12 March 2010
Building works for 20 new affordable homes for rent are well underway in Colyton. The development, to be finished in September 2010, is designed to help local people find suitable and affordable accommodation in their community.
Members of Hastoe Wyvern Housing Association (part of Hastoe Group), East Devon District Council and Colyton Town Council will visit the site on Wednesday 24 March at 10am to take a look at progress outside and inside of the homes.
The development, a rural exception site, will provide two and three bedroom homes that can never be lost to the open market and will always be a priority for local people. Funding has been provided by the Homes and Communities Agency and CG Fry & Son Ltd are carrying out the construction work.
Cllr Andrew Parr, Chairman, Colyton Town Council said: “Local people are at the heart of the community and some of them have had great difficulty securing a home. At last, they will get an opportunity to rent an affordable home, stay in the town and continue to be part of our community.”
Councillor Jill Elson, East Devon District Council’s Portfolio Holder Communities, said: “We have seven corporate priorities, the foremost of which is to help provide affordable homes for the people of East Devon.
“We are always hearing about young people and families who cannot afford to stay in the communities where they grew up. Working with housing associations like Hastoe, and with substantial financial support from the Homes and Communities Agency, these new homes at Colyton can only be positive news for everyone”.
Vaughan Lake, Development Manager at Hastoe, said: “The demand for these homes is high and come September, we will be very pleased to see twenty local households move into their new homes.”
Hastoe’s regional development team is based in Dorchester and, along with colleagues in the East and South, have been shortlisted for the CIH Inside Housing Development Team of the Year Award 2009.
