The first six of sixteen new homes at Powells Way, Dunkeswell will be ready for occupation by local people in the Spring. Members of Hastoe Housing Association, East Devon District Council and Dunkeswell Parish Council will be helping to ‘plant for the Spring’ on Friday 12 March at 10am and will take a look around one of the nearly completed homes.
The development will provide opportunities for local people to rent or part-buy a home in the village, where the open market prices are often out of reach for those on modest incomes. Funding has been provided by the Homes and Communities Agency.
Councillor Jill Elson, East Devon District Council’s Portfolio Holder Communities, said: “Our vision is for an outstanding and sustainable quality of life for everyone in East Devon. One of our priorities to help us to achieve this vision is to provide affordable homes for the people who most need them.
“Too often we hear that young people and families have to move out of the district because they are unable to afford a property in the community where they have grown up. I am delighted that East Devon District Council, along with Hastoe Housing Association and Dunkeswell Parish Council, can begin to give such people a brighter future”.
Vaughan Lake, Development Manager at Hastoe, said:
“We are delighted to be helping provide homes for local people unable to rent or buy on the open market. We would like to thank the Parish Council for their support of the project, which will be of lasting benefit to the community.”
Hastoe’s regional development team is based in Dorchester and, along with colleagues in the East and South, have been shortlisted for the CIH Inside Housing Development Team of the Year Award 2009.
