Hastoe Housing Association has made sure its older residents are not forgotten during the coldest winter for thirty years. Shortly after the cold snap began, a programme to contact all of its residents over 65 years of age sprung into action.
Tim Hall, Head of Housing, said: “We have been ringing every resident over 65 to check that their heating is working properly in this cold weather and to see whether they had any other issues as a result of the adverse conditions that we may be able to assist with. People have been very grateful for the call.”
In addition to planned schemes such as this, Hastoe has discovered that many of its staff have been going that extra mile during the last few weeks.
“Things staff have been doing off their own back include contacting people on Christmas Day who might be alone to cheer them up, visiting vulnerable tenants over the holidays and we even had one member of staff offering to drive a tenant to her daughter’s house on Christmas Eve because her daughter did not want to drive in the snow. It is these sorts of actions that make the difference and we are really proud of our staff.”
