Affordable housing works progress in Framlingham, Suffolk

27 October 2009

Signs of building work will continue to grow at a new development of 12 affordable homes for local people off Kings Avenue, Framlingham.

Hastoe Housing Association brought the project to fruition with support from Framlingham Town Council and Suffolk Coastal District Council.

Research began into the need for a local housing scheme in 2005 when the Town Council raised concerns about the lack of affordable housing available for the community. Framlingham is a very desirable rural town and high house prices have made it difficult for people, even on modest incomes, to remain in the area.

Eight of the homes will be for rent and the remaining four will be for sale on a part-buy, part-rent basis. Built on former agricultural land, planning permission was only granted for this rural exception site because the homes are for local people and can never be lost to the open market. The access road will be built on land gifted by the District Council.

The building contract has been awarded to Duncan Cameron & Hutchinson and completion is expected by July 2010.

Isobel Wright, Development Officer, Hastoe said:-
“Local people are at the heart of this community and some of them have had great difficulty securing a home. At last, they will get an opportunity to rent or part-buy an affordable home, stay in the town and continue to be part of the community.

We would like to thank the Town Council for their continued support and determination to see this project a success and Suffolk Coastal for their commitment to rural housing initiatives across the District.”

Local people will be invited to apply for the homes in 2010. If anyone with a connection to Framlingham is yet to register an interest in one of the homes, please contact Isobel Wright at Hastoe on 01799 533175 or email: iwright@hastoe.com.
