We pride ourselves on reflecting the distinctive differences of sites in the design of our homes to ensure that they sit comfortably within the local context. We achieve this through strong partnerships with parish councils, local authorities, landowners, funders and regulators.
Investing in Rural Communities
We undertake many developments on rural exception sites, carefully selected with the help and expertise of local authority partners, and often provided by local landowners or charitable trusts. Building on rural exception sites means that - where agreed with the local and parish councils – the new homes are kept in perpetuity for the benefit of people with strong local connections.
Hastoe is represented on the Rural Housing Advisory Group that advises government on ways to increase rural housing provision and is a founder member of the National Housing Federation’s Rural Alliance, which shares good practice and lobbies on rural housing issues, such as

Protecting the Environment
A commitment to the environment and climate change is embedded within our culture. We recognise that what is good for the planet is often good for residents, with ground source heat pumps, comprehensive insulation and rain water recycling systems all leading to lower running costs. See our

Many of our new build homes achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 or higher and we have embarked on a retrofit programme for our existing stock. We have also developed the UK’s first rural affordable housing
PassivHaus scheme at Wimbish, Essex, and are investigating the potential for straw bale homes.
We help deliver the lessons we have learned to colleagues in the sector through our subsidiary
Sustainable Homes Ltd.
Distinctive and Innovative
Hastoe is proud to be distinctive; to stand out from the crowd and be innovative. Innovative in the use of technology, the types of tenure we offer and the implementation of ideas to solve financial barriers. We are working with local building societies to provide shared ownership mortgages and developing a creative equity release scheme.
We are also involved in different partnership models for developing new homes - be it Community Land Trusts or Development Partnership Agreements with other social landlords and developers.

We work accross 61 local authorities, based in three regions, and our team was shorlisted in 2010 for the 'Housing Heroes' Development Team of the Year.
