Sustainable Homes

One of the biggest challenges facing everybody at the beginning of the 21st Century is how to reduce our impact on the environment whilst producing a reasonable quality of life for all. Many actions taken when building, managing, maintaining and living in homes have an environmental impact, but simple steps can be taken to improve environmental performance and often give savings to housing associations and residents.

Since its establishment in 1997, Sustainable Homes has been informing, influencing and inspiring the social housing sector to play its part in managing the environment better.

Based at Hastoe Housing Association, Sustainable Homes was set up to promote sustainable development and environmental awareness in housing. Our work centres on gathering and sharing best practice, providing a bridge between social housing and other communities working for change. We offer training and practical support for those taking up the challenge. We undertake research, publish guides, showcase innovation, influence policy and promote fresh thinking in design and sustainable living.
